Local Artists for Local Kids- A Benefit.
On February 25th, 2009 Wingspan Arts will host an evening of local bands and comedians at The Delancey on the Lower East Side to benefit Wingspans Free Summer Theatre and Film Conservatory. The evening will include performances by Beau Jennings, Murder Mystery, Mia Riddle, The Wind Up and features Kevin Allison, formerly of The State. Tunes spun between sets and after by Captain Heartlock. Bar opens at 7, performances begin at 8 and run until 1AM. Free beer generously donated by PBR from 7-8pm!
Wingspan Arts is a 501(c)3 founded in 2001 in response to the lack of arts instruction in public schools. We provide a direct experience in the arts to more than 3,500 children in New York and New Jersey. During the summer our Conservatory gives 70 talented young people, ages 11 to 17, focused attention from teaching artists who specialize in theater and film. Our goal is to develop our students abilities to work in ensembles, incorporate direction and use their bodies, voices and minds expressively. And as the only tuition-free comprehensive theater and film training-program in the city during the summer, we are able to provide arts education to students who otherwise would not have access to training. It is our wholehearted belief that our students monetary resources should never limit their dreams and we need help making that happen.
