Diamano Coura 46th Annual Tribute Performance
This performance is a Celebration of life of our Dr. "Papa" Zak Diouf. We dedicate this performance and those to come show the legacy he has created all through out the world.
Join us as we present the World Premier of "Impatient Fola (Drummer)", choreographed by Ibrahima Diouf. This ballet will show how respect, time and hard work as a Fola is a special skill that can only be passed along when the time is right, never when it is rushed. Bringing this story to the stage is so important during a time when everything seems so accessible. This ballet will bring an impact for the youth, showcasing fashion, traditional West African dance and drumming showing how it ties into western culture.
We will also perform "M'Balsanney" choreographed by Dr. Zakarya Sao Diouf representing the Serer Ethnic Group, Senegal: The Serers are fishermen and farmers who migrated from the Nile River of northeastern Africa to what is now known as Senegal in West Africa. King Tutankhamen, the fifth Pharaoh of Egypt, was of the Serer ethnic group. The Serer, who are composed of five interrelated groups: the Sinesine, the Niominka, the Safene, NDoute and Lebou, are known for their abilities to make predictions about the conditions of the ocean by looking at the sea and sky.
Masks are required for all attendees. Proof of vaccination or negative COVID test within 72 hours will be required.
