Guide to this weekend's Performances:
Performance #5 Sat Dec 11 at 3:00pm (Level 4 and guests) This Nutcracker Excerpt is danced by MDSB Level 4 students and advanced level guests. Drosselmeyer dances with Masha and Fritz and tells them about the magic of the Nutcracker. Level 4 dancers perform the Act I "Party Entrance" and Lullaby. They join Masha and Fritz to watch the beautiful Snow Adagio. Every young girl imagines herself dancing as a grown up with the Snow Cavalier. The Level 4 dancers perform the Spanish Dance and are followed by guests dancing the "Spanish," "Tarantella," and "Pas de Quatre" solos. The Level 4 dancers perform the Waltz of the Flowers. They take their places on the stage to enjoy the "Gigue" Soloist. The program culminates in the "Grand Pas de Deux" of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Prince.
Performance #6 Sat Dec 11 at 5:00pm (Level 5 and guests) This Nutcracker Excerpt is performed by MDSB Level 5 students and advanced level guests. Drosselmeyer dances with Masha and Fritz. He tells them about the magic of the Nutcracker. The "Ballerina Doll" soloist performs. They all watch the beautiful Snow Adagio. Level 5 dancers perform the Snowflake corps joined by the Snow Queen and Snow Princesses followed by "Pas de Quatre" and "Tarantella" solos and the guest performance by "Spanish." Soloist. The Level 5 dancers perform the Waltz of the Flowers together with the Dew Drop and Dew Drop Cavalier. The program culminates in the "Grand Pas de Deux" of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Prince.
Performance #7 Sun Dec 12 at 3:00pm (Level 6-A and guests) This Nutcracker Excerpt is performed by MDSB Level 6 advanced students. Drosselmeyer dances with Masha and Fritz and tells them about the magic of the Nutcracker. The "Ballerina Doll" and "Russian Doll" perform. Masha and Fritz watch the beautiful Snow Adagio, then Level 6 dancers perform the Snow Scene followed by the performances of "Chinese", Pulcinella, "Spanish" and "Arabian" solos. The Level 6 dancers perform the Waltz of the Flowers together with the Dew Drop and Dew Drop Cavalier, which is followed by the performance of "Gigue." The program culminates in the grand pas de deux of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Prince.
Gala Performance (#8) Sun Dec 12 at 5:30pm (Level 6-B and Guest Artists) In this Performance, Marat Daukayev, dancing Drosselmeyer, performs with the advanced Level 6 students in excerpts from The Nutcracker. Matisse Love, Guest Artist, MDSB alumnus, and Russian State Ballet Theatre Soloist, joins the group and performs the Snow Adagio and Grand Pas de Deux. MDSB Alumnus and Ballet West Trainee, Paul McKinney dances the roles of Snow Cavalier, Dew Drop, and Prince. Drosselmeyer dances with Masha and Fritz and tells of the magic of the Nutcracker. The "Ballerina Doll" and "Russian Doll" Soloists perform. The corps de ballet performs the "Snow Scene" followed by the performances of Pas de Trois, "Chinese", "Tarantella", "Spanish" and "Arabian" solos. The Level 6 corps performs the "Waltz of the Flowers" together with the Dew Drop and Dew Drop Cavalier, which is followed by the performance of "Gigue." The program culminates in the "Grand Pas de Deux" of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Prince
Marching toy soldiers, waltzing snowflakes, mischievous mice, and Tchaikovsky's unforgettable score are quintessential hallmarks of the holidays. Celebrate the season with Marat Daukayev Ballet Theatre's presentation of The Nutcracker, a holiday ballet for the whole family. Featuring dancers of all ages, The Nutcracker tells the story of young Masha, who receives a gift of a wooden nutcracker doll at her parents' Christmas party. That night, she dreams her Nutcracker comes to life and together they battle the wicked Mouse King and journey through an enchanted forest of snow to reach the Kingdom of Sweets, where the Sugar Plum Fairy and all her sweet subjects await them.
