Lunch with a Leader: Albert Verhofstadt
Leadership Kitsap Alumni Association's Lunch With A Leader series is designed to benefit all Leadership Kitsap Alumni. Join our regional leaders for lunch and hear the stories of their leadership journeys. The conversations will be organic, thought-provoking, and alumni-led. Lunches are quarterly. We will take the first 12 alumni to sign up.

ALBERT P. VERHOFSTADT, PE is assigned as the Executive Director for Navy Region Northwest, Silverdale, WA.  He was selected for this position in June 2006.

Al was born June 24, 1955, in St. Boniface, Manitoba, Canada.  He is the son of Aime F. and Emily (Boel) Verhofstadt.  He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later completed a Master of Science degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California in 1980 and received a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington in 1987.  During his Navy career he was designated a Seabee Combat Warfare Officer, member of the Department of the Navys Acquisition Professional Community and is a Registered Professional Engineer (Mechanical) in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  He retired as a Captain from the U.S. Navy on August 01, 2003 and subsequently was hired to Navy Region Northwest, initially as the Deputy Business Manager and later served as Business Manager and Regional Housing Manager prior to assuming his current duties.

As a Naval Officer he was initially assigned to Commander Fleet Activities Okinawa/U.S. Naval Air Facility Kadena, where he served as Educational Services Officer, Personnel Officer and Administrative Officer.  During this assignment, he was selected for lateral transfer into the Civil Engineer Corps and graduated with distinction from the Civil Engineer Corps Officers School in 1980.  He has completed assignments as the Planning Officer, NAS Key West, FL; Base Operating Services Contract, Planning and Programming Officer, Naval Submarine Base, Bangor, WA; Assistant Resident Officer in Charge of Construction, Western Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Contracts, Northwest Area, Silverdale, WA; Civil Engineer Corps Placement Officer and Requirements Planner, Naval Military Personnel Command, Washington, DC; Executive Officer, Amphibious Construction Battalion TWO, Little Creek, VA; Deputy Director for Engineering, Logistics Directorate (J4), U.S. Atlantic Command, Norfolk, VA; Production Officer, Navy Public Works Center, Norfolk, VA;  Public Works Officer, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, WA; and Assistant Chief of Staff for Facilities, Commander Navy Region Northwest, Bangor, WA.  His final assignment in the Navy was as Commanding Officer, Engineering Field Activity Northwest, Poulsbo, WA.

Among his awards and decorations are the Legion of Merit (Second Award) Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (Third Award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (Fourth Award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal (with bronze star), Southwest Asia Service Medal (with bronze star), Humanitarian Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal and other service awards.    Al has also received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award and Superior Civilian Service Award during his civil service career at Commander, Navy Region Northwest.

Al is married to the former Mary Catherine (Kit) Williamson of Palmetto Florida.  They have four daughters, Erin Catherine, Meghan Elizabeth, Caitlin Alice and Allison Anne.

While there is NO CHARGE for this opportunity for our alumni, if you do not show and do not cancel within 12 hours of the event, you will be charged $15 for your lunch. We anticipate a waiting list and people would value the chance to attend that were not able to be one of the first 12.
