DRY BONES
Opening November 11, 2021, showcase performances of "Dry Bones" will run through to November 21, 2021 "Dry Bones" by Ivy Hawkins is a complex story about "returning citizens," their families, and the thriving social conditions which they must navigate.
The play is focused on family bonds, deep resentments, youth coming of age, and a central theme that addresses the fate of men who are learning to transition back into their communities. The story centers on relationships between an ex-husband and a wife, between a father and a son, and a secret between two brothers.
Frederick Douglas said, It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.
Eugene Haines hopes of a fresh start quickly diminish when a series of unfortunate events unfold, forcing him to address some unfinished business with his estranged father and the infamous and very powerful T-Rex. The play introduces a support group of men who tell their stories and help each other create better lives for themselves.
"Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life". -Ezekiel 37:4
Live Garra Theatre is back, the return of the performing arts is back! We're in the theatre space; we're at the theatre place, the Silver Spring Black Box and we're in-person: LIVE!
We are in uncharted waters; transitioning slowly, but deliberately; seamlessly - starting with zoom play read-throughs and community talk-backs. Were inviting patrons to experience live theatre again and as the saying goes: "the show MUST go on."
And we're putting the show on; it'll be just how we remember it used to be; great storytelling, tears, laughter, lights, costumes, sets, and action. New on the playbill: masks, social distancing, and vaccinations.
FOR THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE: ALL PATRONS MUST WEAR MASKS DURING THE PERFORMANCES AND PROVIDE PROOF OF FULL VACCINATION; OUR SINCEREST THANKS!!
Live Garra Theatre, whose mission is to employ the cultural arts as a means to address critical social life issues, will open its doors on Thursday, November 11, 2021, with Dry Bones, written by Ivy Hawkins. The play runs through Sunday, November 21, 2021, with performances Thursday - Saturday at 8:00 pm and matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 3:00 pm.
