Grande Orquestra Navarre
"An old squeezebox band in the hotel lobby of a Fellini movie" is how Tom Hagerman, who plays accordion and violin with the group, describes Grande Orquesta Navarre's sound. Their music combines the heartbeat of an old cabaret orchestra with the modern feel of cutting edge new music, classical remixes and nuevo tango. Grande Orquestra Navarre's unique style is both a throwback and a revelation.
This Denver-based ensemble features Tom Hagerman (DeVotchKa), Susan Cahill (Summer Music Festival faculty and double bassist with the Colorado Symphony), bowmaker Evan Orman on bandoneon and cello, and Boulder-based pianist Sara Parkinson (Executive Director of the Boulder Philharmonic orchestra).
A portion of this show's proceeds will be donated to Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra. CYSO fosters musical understanding, social growth, self-esteem and a lifelong love of music. The CYSO program supports and enhances existing school programs while expanding student, parent, and audience participation of the finest classical and contemporary orchestral literature.
