The McKrells
$15

The McKrells "It's positively exhilarating to be swept away by a regional band's CD. The songwriting talent in this band is mind boggling. Why aren't The McKrells better known and why aren't they with a major recording label??? Bluegrass Now Magazine. If bands were paid by the number of notes they played, soulfulness, conviction, confidence or black leather the McKrells would have bagged most of the money Thursday. Kevin McKrell owned the stage and crowd as usual and sang "It's Not Me" as the country-est song of the night. They were a delicious bonus and surprise. The Daily Gazette Kevin McKrell entertained in wry blarney, sang Ould Sod sentiment in Dublin Town and Home in Donegal and, most impressively, crooned his original songs of John Prine-like insight and effortless musicality. The Daily Gazette Kevin McKrell-guitar Somewhere tonight, across the country or across the sea, a singer, sitting on a stool on a pubs corner stage, is belting out a Kevin McKrell song, and the crowd is singing along. McKrell pioneered American Celtic music beginning in 1979 with Donnybrook Fair. The original trios 1982 album Tunnel Tigers remains a landmark of the form, with its blend of Clancy Brothers swagger and upstate NY attitude. McKrell honed his powerful performance style further in the 80s with The Fabulous Newports, a rambunctious harmony group known as much for its antics, cut-up comedy and long list of eventual members as for its sweet singing. In 1998, McKrellwho has three solo albums to his creditformed a powerhouse band under his own name, merging the Irish sensibility of Donnybrook with a steely, world class bluegrass edge. The McKrells toured harder than Donnybrook, bringing its music, with McKrells lusty vocals supported by hot string band picking, to Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Folk, Irish and Bluegrass festivals and concert venues around the country. Offstage, McKrell, is a respected painter, with his work hanging in many of the halls hes haunted, here and in Ireland, Scotland and Italy. He is best known, though, for his indelible songsclassics like Home In Donegal,  You and Me, I Miss the Rain and the eternal All of The Hard Days Are Gonewhich, in addition to the raft of pub singers mentioned afore, have been sung and recorded by artists like The Kingston Trio, from Ireland The Furey Brothers, Seamus Kennedy ,The Druids, The Dublin City Ramblers from Scotland North Sea Gas, from Australia Pat McKernan. From the US Bob Shane, Hair of the Dog, Woods Tea Company ,Get Up Jack, Frank Orsini - Fiddle -Vocal Frank is one of the prominent acoustic musicians of upstate New York. He plays violin, viola and mandolin. A versatile fiddler, singer and seasoned ensemble player, WhipperSnappers, the Upstate Bluegrass Band and the High Flyers. Franks repertoire and expertise is extensive and spans Elizabethan and Celtic, Bluegrass, Country, and Blues as well as dance tunes from England, New England, Canada, Appalachia, American swing and Cajun. Scott Hopkins- Banjo -Vocal Scott grew up hearing bluegrass recordings in his home. At 15 he took up banjo and also joined the school band on tuba, fully immersing himself in the study of music. Scott received music education degrees from Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam and the University of Connecticut, winning the Crane Concerto Competition on tuba. Scott has released an acclaimed banjo recording, using his skills as composer, arranger, producer and engineer. Peter Pashoukas - Guitar With his band Perennial, his solo act , traveling the word playing the ukulele, or playing guitar with The McKrells Peter Pashoukas shows he is a world class talent . Arlin Greene - Bass - Vocal Arlin has toured the world with the likes of The McKrells, Bill Keith, Dan Tyminski, James "D Train"Williams, Bolton, Nolan and Greene, Big Medicine, George Fletchers, Folding Money, and The Trophy Husbands. Brian Melick -Percussionist Brian is single-handedly capable of lifting a good band to the 'great' level. As a drum circle facilitator / educator, he possesses a magnetism that literally reaches out and pulls the audience into the music.
