The Alwan Ensemble: Music of the Rahbani Brothers
The revered and celebrated Lebanese musical duo, Assi and Mansour Rahbani, represent two of the most influential composers of contemporary Arabic music. Join Alwan for the Arts in commemorating the musical genius of the Rahbani Brothers through a performance by the highly acclaimed Alwan Ensemble. The Rahbani Brothers played a significant role in shaping the sound and composition of what is characterized in the Arab music world today and presented two unique types of music to the mass Arab audience. Firstly, they released productions with folk Levantine forms and methods as part of their theatrical repertoire and then continued on to present new songs in Lebanese dialect but constructed within a western music paradigm, which included prominent French and Russian pieces. In a two part concert that exhibits and demonstrates the binary classics of the Rahbani Brothers, the Alwan Ensemble will deliver a performance exemplifying both these original modes on December 14th. The first segment will cover the works based on folklore, sahret hob, which is a theatrical traditional sketch and the second component will illustrate and focus on the Franco-Arab models.
