Doors open @ 7:15pm, ceremony starts at 7:45pm. Please observe silence as you enter Beit Zatoun. Please bring a floor cushion, if you can sit on the floor: floor seating & chair seating.
Suggested Contribution: $20-$30 (pay what you can). Capacity is limited, arrive early or reserve online at brown paper ticket:
"Shabi Arus, is the (solar) anniversary of the passing of Jalâluddîn Rûmî (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumi), who died in 1273. The observance of the anniversary of a sufi saint is called urs, which means "wedding," because the saint is believed to have attained "union" (or utmost nearness) with God, the Only Beloved.
Rumi's `urs is called Shabi Arus or "Wedding Night".
Many sufi gatherings of various kinds will be mentioning the name of this saint on this night, praying that the blessings of God be upon his soul, and celebrating his "Wedding Night" by the "Whirling Prayer Ceremony" (Samâ`) of the Mevlevi ("Whirling Dervish"), recitation of his poetry, and sufi prayer chanting, zikru 'llâh-- "remembrance of God."
Need to know:
- Doors open at 7:15pm
-please don't arrive late, space is limited, first come first serve or reserve online.
- A floor cushion or Yoga mat will be helpful to bring as most seating will be in traditional floor seating.
- $20-$30 sliding scale at the door (contribute what you can)
- Accessible on demand via portable ramp; washrooms not accessible
- Please avoid using strong-scented products due to sensitivities
-Tasty refreshments (non-alcoholic) with Zatoun oliveoil+za'atar dipping.
