Have you always wanted to write a personal essay but you don't know where to start? Published journalist, Natasha Vargas-Cooper, will help you transform your bad blind dates and visits from unruly parents into insightful, compelling revelations. She'll show you how to make your essay relatable and tantalizing to readers and editors. You'll learn about the essential elements of a memorable essay, how to structure your essay, and the different types of personal essays. By the end of class, you'll have begun writing a kick-ass essay and have learned what it takes to get your name in print. You'll be well on your way to joining the ranks of the 40 Writing Pad Alums who have been published and have gotten paid for their work in publications such as Self, Marie Claire, LA Times, Salon, Spirit Magazine, and New York Magazine!

About Natasha Vargas-Cooper:
Natasha Vargas Cooper is a journalist whose essays and articles have been published in  The New York Times, Atlantic Monthly, The Guardian, Wall Street Journal, GQ, The New Republic, Out, Spin, The New Statesman, New York Magazine, The Telegraph, Los Angeles Magazine, BookForum, Russia GQ, The Morning News, Pacific Standard, Buzzfeed, The New Inquiry, Elle, Slake, In Style, Latina, Blackbook, Bullett, Good, The Awl, Salon, E! Online, The Daily Beast, The Daily, The Hairpin, and Gawker. She is also the author of Mad Men Unbuttoned: A Romp Through 1960's America and runs the monthly storytelling series called Public School. Natasha spent several years working as a union organizer and a health policy analyst for a labor union in Los Angeles and Washington D.C. She holds a Bachelor's degree from UCLA in History and Public Policy.
