NOROOZ! 2009 -- Celebration of the Persian New Year
Seattle-based Iranian music ensemble, Kamand, joins guest artist from Vancouver B.C. to celebrate Norooz, the Iranian New Year and first day of Spring. In Iran, Norooz is celebrated by cleaning the home, gathering with family and friends, making peace in relationships, and starting fresh with music and dancing. Please join us for this special evening in honor of our human connections and the joy of spring renewal.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS Kamand is Seattle's only traditional Iranian music ensemble. Their repertoire ranges from regional folk music to classical compositions. Since 2003, Kamand has been invited to contribute their music to diverse community events, including the Northwest Folklife Festival, the Portland Iranian Festival, numerous benefits, educational programs in School K-12. Kamand dedicates every performance to increasing multicultural awareness and building relationships of respect and appreciation within the community.
Special guests Hosts will include:
David McGrath, Zorna David has been studying Arabic nay and zurna for about 9 yrs, playing w/ many other Middle Eastern musicians and groups. His primary ensemble is House of Tarab, performing traditional Arabic music. houseoftarab.com David performs regularly in the NW.
