Barefoot All-Stars play Consort Music by Ward
To Barefoots eternal surprise and delight, the mid-winter viol consort music program has become hugely popular with the Barefoot audience. This years composer of choice is John Ward, surely the best known Elizaethan/Jacobean composer youve never heard of. Wards name recognition amongst the general music-loving public is lower even than that of William Sterndale Bennet (the English Mendelssohn, another jewel buried in the coal heap of history).
Ward wrote fabulous consort music and madrigals, and is as hugely popular in the cult circles that play and sing this kind of stuff as he is entirely unknown outside these circles. We will play almost all his six-part music, and a goodly selection of his five- and four- part music. Youll be amazed.
To make this truly delicious program possible, we are delighted to have been able to import, once again, the worlds most sought-after treble viol player (not to mention the worlds most-travelled treble viol player), the legendary Wendy Gillespie, who will help us to make this project an evening to remember.
