Experts and Insights: MCC Faculty Speaker Series- November 18, 2021
Join us when MCC's Faculty Patricia Gaughan and Nancy Maio presents "American History Through Folk Music" on November 18, 2021
This program is a live musical performance/lecture presented by Pat Gaughan and Nancy Maio featuring the story of our American heritage. It starts with songs of the Revolutionary War and travels through time to the post-Civil War era. The historical context of the music is briefly discussed. It is a journey back to early America that explores the lives of the early settlers through their songs about work, love, faith, slavery, politics, war, and lively dance tunes. There is a wealth of music that survived through time, this is just a snapshot representing some of the ethnicities and races that form our American heritage. Transcending time and place through the songs allows us to understand that we share a commonality with them as well as each other today.
