More Description of After School Art:
AFTER SCHOOL ART 2021: Picture a year imagining yourself as an artist! Libby Birch's after-school art program introduces 1st-5th graders to a diverse art curriculum. Students will get exposure to fabric, painting, clay, printmaking, mixed media, photography, arts of China, visiting artists, and art exhibition tours. Lessons emphasize critical thinking skills, open-ended solutions, and creativity. Classes also take into account the whole health of the student; a healthy snack is provided at the beginning of each class, and movement and music is incorporated into the curriculum. Join the fun!
UNIT DESCRIPTIONS: Unit 1: "Learn, Create, Love Nature" Explore the world of trees. Each artist receives two living trees: a Red Oak and an Ohio Buckeye. Then, we'll take a nature walk to gather natural art materials!
Unit 2: "Squishy Play with Clay" Who doesn't love clay? Make and take clay beasts, bowls, beads, and monsters. Let your creative side shine!
Unit 3: "Learn Art with Your Heart" Create handmade bookmarks, make a paper mache bowl, and learn paper marbling. You may even put all these projects together to create an art journal!
Unit 4: "Fun, Interact, Engage with Paint" Each artist receives a blank white canvas to paint a picture - let your imagination soar! You'll also receive a canvas tote bag with a treat.
Unit 5: "Sketch, Shape, and Draw" Adventure into the world of drawing! Students receive a sketchbook to use, play drawing games, learn step-by-step sketching techniques, and draw in groups.
Unit 6: "Curious, Creative, Cool Photography" Each artist has their own camera to use for 3 weeks while exploring the outdoors. Then, images are printed and used to make a photo journal.
