Getsome Athletics is excited to head back to the east coast to provide 2 separate training clinics. Shorty Ounce and Carmen Getsome will be providing a Beginner/Basic Skills Session as well as a Intermediate/Advanced Skater Session.
Descriptions of the classes:
Beginners Session will be Sat from 9am to Noon and Sun from 8am-11am.
All skaters, new and old are welcome to attend the Begginers Session. This is a time to learn or work on basic skills and learn tips and tricks about how to perfect your stopping, quick starts, contact, force out and partner work.
Beginners Classes: -Stopping quickly and effortlessly -Contact: How to use your body to destroy your opponent -My Buddy, My Buddy, My Buddy and Me. Learn to block with a friend to double your blocking Power -Containment and Control. Learn to put your body in the right place at the right time to contain your opponent. -Backwards Blocking: learn how to skate backwards yourself as well as how to assist your teammate if he or she is backwards -Strategy Talk: This include off skates walk through of what each strategic move will look like in real life.
Intermediate/Advanced Sessions will be Saturday from 1pm-5pm and Sunday from 12-4pm. Skaters attending the Intermediate/Advanced Session must have completed minimum skills testing and have played in at least 5 bouts by Feb 8th, 2014.
The Int/Adv session will focus primarily on strategy drills and development. We will also provide scrimmage time with feedback on individual and group execution of strategy.
Int/Adv Classes: -Containment = control. Learn how and who to contain and how to use that to manipulate pack speed. -Backwards Blocking like a boss. Destroy souls and take names. -Hat Passing: make it a strategy to get out of a sticky situation. -Effective Start Line Strategy, learn the benefits of having the ability to start anywhere in the blocker box. -Catch the loose points. Blockers learn how to snag an extra point in close jams. -Mid Jam scenarios and how the pack can help the team be successful. -Focused Scrimmage Time. Scrimmage and get feedback regarding execution of strategies from coaches Carmen Getsome and Shorty Ounce.

Carmen Getsome
Carmen Getsome has been skating with the Rat City Rollergirls since 2005, and absolutely loves teaching skaters things she has learned about derby along the way. She loves to share her knowledge of the sport as well as to create new drills to help facilitate development of new strategies. Carmen has captained her home team as well as the Allstar throughout the years and really enjoyed her leadership roles. She and Shorty Ounce are the training committee for their home team which allows them plenty of opportunities to develop new and exciting drills! Carmen has been selected by her leaguemates as MVP in 2008-2012 and she was recently selected to be a member of the 2013-2014 Roller Derby Team USA.
