"I feel like every time one of Johnsmith's songs gets heard a little healing happens to the world." - Buddy Mondlock
Johnsmith was born into a family of ten children in Dewitt, IA. After learning to play the guitar at 19, he began writing songs, leading to a career that found him playing over 150 dates a year. A winner of the New Folk competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival, he has also won songwriting awards at the Telluride, Rocky Mountain Folks, and Falcon Ridge Folk Festivals. Johnsmith leads multiple musical trips to Ireland each year and teaches songwriting workshops at Kerrville, Summersongs, as well as at an annual residency at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California.
Ginkgo is Wisconsin singer-songwriter Johnsmiths 8th solo CD. 13 new original songs ranging from the insightful Fallow Season to the moving title track Ginkgo. This new CD finds Johns songwriting skills reaching a new depth in the art of combining craft and heart.
Ginkgo was co-produced with long time friend Tom Prasada-Rao and features guitar, dobro, banjo, violin, upright bass, with harmony vocals by Johns daughter Elisi Smith-Waller and long time partner Dan Sebranek.
