Sorrel Muggridge & Laura Nanni are interdisciplinary artists who have been working with each other since summer 2006, often with an ocean between themSorrel in England, Laura in Canada. Their collaborative works deal with journeys, distance, and translation of space.
Individually, their practices have always responded to preoccupations with human geography and site specificity. Collaboratively their works explore how people understand and connect with their surroundings; and how we can build and communicate a shared sense of place?
Sorrel and Laura transform records of actions and experiences into installations that can be appreciated as maps, abstract forms, and narratives of the journeys. They also create artworks that connect audiences in separate locations sharing a journey at the same time. While moving through their different environments together, landscapes intertwine.
For the 2021 SummerWorks lab, simultaneous public sharings in Toronto and Norwich will invite solo and intimate group walks with either Laura (Canada) or Sorrel (UK).
Participants in Toronto/Tkaronto will meet Laura at The Theatre Centre (1115 Queen St West). Please head to the west side of the building (Lisgar St.), and wait at the edge of the garden, when you arrive.
Each 1.5 hour experience will be unique. Further advance instructions will be sent to you 48 hours in advance of your time slot.
The 6am and 10am sharings on Friday and the 6am sharing on Saturday are for one audience member. The other sharings will have 5 audience members.
