Test - NTG's Summer Season of Streaming
We put out a call to local playwrights to write a script inspired by JOY. We are thrilled to premiere these two original one-act plays!
(Recommended for ages 13+)

Red Velvet by Isaac Ellis

Directed by Marisa Dluge

Starring Meg McNamee and Craig VanKempen

While preparing to bake a red velvet cake from a family recipe for the neighborhood festival, Andrew is visited by his grandmother, Nora, in the form of the housewife she was in the 1940s. Andrew refuses to allow her to help him, so she busies herself with a martini and conversation. After stumbling across a few revelations  like the fact that https://www.brownpapertickets.com/user/manageevent/5170161#her grandson is gay and married to a man  Nora uncovers the darkest secret of all: Andrew has changed the family red velvet cake recipe. Queerness, family legacies, the past, present, and future collide as Andrew struggles to bake the red velvet cake and grapples with the idea that he doesnt have a child of his own to pass the recipe on to.

Finding Joy by Ken MacGregor

Directed by Maegan Murphy

Starring Jamie Jee and Alice Kepchar

Adam, a grieving widower, is trying to find solace by going to a new cafe and ordering the kind of coffee his late wife enjoyed. There, he meets Joy, the owner, who inspires him to embrace life instead of just continuing to exist.
