Getsome Athletics Goes to Newcastle, UK
Getsome Athletics is super excited to be heading to Newcastle to teach derby athletes of all skill levels the newest roller derby skills and strategies as well as how to beat them! This exclusive three day clinic will be hosted by world renowned coaches and Rat City All Stars team members, Shorty Ounce and Carmen Getsome!
The clinic will be:
Friday 5pm-9pm
Skating Skills and Drills
-skate stride and form
-stopping quickly and effectively
-agility on your skates
-toe stops and their many uses
Saturday and Sunday 9am-4pm
Derby Skills and Strategy
Just some classes that will be offered over the weekend clinic include:
- Hit It, Never Quit It
- Effective Start Line Strategy
- How to be Effective in a Power Jam
- Playing from 19 feet
- Advanced Strategies and How to Counter Them
- Backward Blocking WILL change your life
At the end of Saturday and Sunday you get to put your skills to the test during scenario style classes and scrimmaging with Carmen and Shorty where the coaches earn their keep and play alongside the participants!! A full weekend of new classes and drills will be brought to this clinic and you will find yourself learning new techniques and strategies to catapult you, your team and your league to the next level!
Skaters from any and all leagues are welcome and encouraged to participate. This event is CO-ED!!
Shorty Ounce:
Teaching and coaching the derby community is Shorty Ounces' passion. She loves helping skaters find what technique works best for them and how to excel at this amazing sport by learning a few tricks! Shorty specializes in blocking and wall formation as well as stopping and strategies. Shorty has traveled around the world sharing her derby knowledge with skaters from Australia to North Carolina. Shorty Ounce has captained her home team to the championship title 2 years in a row and has captained the Rat City Rollergirls Allstar team all the way to world champs this year! Shorty Ounce was Rookie of the Year her first year in derby and has also been selected as Defensive Player of the Year.
Carmen Getsome
Carmen Getsome has been skating with the Rat City Rollergirls since 2005, and absolutely loves teaching skaters things she has learned about derby along the way. She loves to share her knowledge of the sport as well as to create new drills to help facilitate development of new strategies. Carmen has captained her home team as well as the Allstar throughout the years and really enjoyed her leadership roles. She and Shorty Ounce are the training committee for their home team which allows them plenty of opportunities to develop new and exciting drills! Carmen has been selected by her leaguemates as MVP in 2008-2012 and she was recently selected to be a member of the 2013-2014 Roller Derby Team USA.
