The Ultimate Oyster Experience--Nighttime, Low Tide, "Walrus & Carpenter Picnic" on Taylor Shellfish Oyster Beds Benefitting the Puget Sound Restoration Fund.

Hosted by Taylor Shellfish Farms as a benefit for the Puget Sound Restoration fund, the Walrus & Carpenter picnics provide the unltimate oyster-eating experience, one by which all others will be judged.
Lewis Carroll's "Walrus & Carpenter", a whimsical tale about how the Walrus and the Carpenter lure the oysters for "a pleasant walk, a pleasant talk, upon the briny beach" and then proceed to eat every one, provided the inspiration, says organizer, Jon Rowley.
The "picnic" takes place by lantern and/or moon light on Taylor's Totten Inlet oyster bed on a low minus tide at night in the middle of the winter. An icy gust of wind off the bay might invigorate the experience. Shucking lessons are available or visit one of the oyster bars set up on the beach. Plump, sweet, perky oysters, just rousted from their beds and opened on the spot and award-wining "oyster wines" served in Reidel stemware close at hand. Just the right mix of magic and madness. When the tide starts coming in, there is a bonfire and a cup of Xinh Dwelley's hot oyster stew before getting back on the bus.
The cost of $125 per person benefits the Puget Sound Restoration Fund. Tickets available through Brown Paper Tickets include the round trip bus to Totten Inlet, entertainment, shucking lessons, Olympia, Shigoku, Pacific and Totten Inlet Virginica oysters served with winners of the Pacific Coast Oyster Wine Competition.
