Benson Grist Mill Ghost Hunt
Our ghost hunts at the historic and haunted Benson Grist Mill will absolutely test your nerve.

Benson Grist Mill is one of the most iconic and foreboding places in Tooele County, Utah.

Activity ranges from shadow figures and poltergeist activity, to unexplained sounds, mists, disembodied voices, and apparitions.

The paranormal activity inside this building and on the property is known to be frequent and intense!

Location History:

Between the rugged Cedar Mountains and The Great Salt Lake Desert of Utahs Tooele Valley rises a truly imposing structure.

Four stories of wood and brick construction come together and cast a frightening shadow over the spring-fed pond that flows quietly through the land.

Youve just stepped back into the pioneer era of the historically haunted Benson Grist Mill.

In 1854, LDS (Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints) Apostle Ezra Taft Benson made his way to Utahs Tooele Valley upon authorization from church president Brigham Young.

The authorization from Brigham Young led Ezra Taft Benson to develop a grist mill for newly settling pioneer families in the area.

Ezra Taft Benson hired Thomas Lee and his brother to construct the grist mill in an area known as Richland (the original county seat of Tooele County), next to Twin Springs Creek.

The grist mill was completed in late 1854, named E.T. Benson Flour Mill, with the surrounding area also called Bensons Mill.

In 1860, Ezra Taft Benson moved 100 miles north to the Cache Valley, leaving Brigham Young to purchase the mill in the name of the church for a sum of $3,333.

In 1862 the name of the grist mill was changed to Young and Rowberrys, in honor of Brigham Young and John Rowberry, who moved to the area as the grist mills original supervisor while also serving as bishop of the local church congregation.

In 1922 J Reuben Clark purchased the grist mill and operations continued on a regular basis until 1938. The grist mill was then used infrequently to grind meal for animals before being abandoned altogether.

The property containing the grist mill was sold to Terracor Corporation. In 1972 Benson Grist Mill was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

In 1983 a committee was formed which resulted in the property being deeded to Tooele County.

By the late 1980s Bensons Grist Mill had been fully restored and began to open for tours.
