"Othello" featuring Ricardo Pitts-Wiley
Mixed Magic Theatre is proud to present William Shakespeare's Othello, the timeless tragedy of loyalty broken, love lost and the bloody consequences of unchecked paranoia.
The betrayals: Othello, a former slave stolen from Africa, has risen to the rank of general in the Venetian army. He has risen to such heights that he dares to marry Desdemona, the daughter of a nobleman, who is many years his junior. Following a victorious campaign and looking to settle into a new life of wedlock, Othello is in need of an officer who can one day replace him. He passes over his loyal ancient, Iago, in favor of an up and coming warrior by the name of Michael Cassio. Feeling slighted and enraged, Iago spins a web of manipulation, seeking to ensnare Othello and destroy the lives of anyone close to him.
This production features local theater luminaries Ricardo Pitts-Wiley in the title role, with a special guest appearance by The Rhode Island Shakespeare Theatre's Bob Colonna in the role Brabantio. Iago will be played by 2nd Story Theatre veteran Alex Duckworth. The role of Desdemona will be played by Mixed Magic newcomer Stephanie Crugnola.
