For more information please call (917) 743-4641, visit www.bronxconcertsingers.org or email BCS_info@bronxconcertsingers.org.
Maestro Galván leads BCS in a program that highlights the traditional music of Christmastime while incorporating the aural colors of contemporary holiday works featuring Francis Poulenc's Gloria, a 20th century work with changing meters, complex rhythms, profound dynamic contrasts and intense melodic colors. Throughout the concert cherished traditional carols appear amongst Christmas songs from around the globe such as composer Ariel Ramirez's Argentinean folk song "El Nacimiento" from the work Navidad; A La Nanita Nana, a gentle Ecuadorian lullaby carol; and the Nigerian Christmas song Betelehemu, a spirited, lively work. The program also includes John J. Nile's, I Wonder as I Wander; Berlioz's The Shepherds' Farewell and other treasured holiday songs.
Tickets are available in advance and at the door from BCS: General admission is $20 / two for $35, seniors and students with valid ID, $15 and children through high school, $5. Tickets may also be charged through Brown Paper Tickets by phone at 1-800-838-3006, or online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/514260.
This concert is made possible with public funds from the Bronx Council on the Arts through the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs Greater New York Arts Development Fund Program, and the support of local businesses, organizations and individuals who appreciate the arts.
