Our Ghost Hunts at the Palmyra Historical Museum are not for the faint of heart!

The paranormal that has been encountered, witnessed, and experienced will even test the most avid Ghost Hunter.

Join us to explore these two unique and amazing locations. Maybe Sibyl will have a message for you, or the spirit children will entice you to play.

You might even try to engage with the Dark-man while you are all alone in the Doctors Room  if you dare.

Location History:

The historic town of Palmyra, New York is home to five museums  two of which are reportedly haunted! If you want to find out if the stories are true, be sure to book your ticket now!

The Palmyra Historical Museum boasts 23 themed rooms featuring artifacts, memorabilia, and archives. The building once served as a hotel and a tavern, but now offers visitors a glimpse into 200 years of history of the town, including its connections to the Underground Railroad, the Suffrage movement, the Erie Canal, and the Civil War.

Artifacts from as early as 1781 are on display, and the mission of the museum is to educate and preserve the rich and diverse history of the region.

The old hotel building which houses the museum was moved from its former location on William Street to its current site in the 1970s  and now happens to sit on the land where a horrific fire took the lives of six children and one adult in 1964.

Phelps General Store has also been transformed into a museum where time has stopped. It served the community of Palmyra in many forms: a bakery, boarding house, tavern, and of course, a general store.

It was constructed in 1826 and owned by William Phelps, who subsequently renovated the store over the years until 1875. It was then left untouched until his son Julius locked up the building in 1940, thus preserving this location as a virtual time capsule.

The Phelps family lived above the store, and today you can visit those living quarters complete with elegant furnishings, but no electricity or running water. This is where Sibyl Phelps, noted spiritualist and musician, lived until her passing in 1976.

But many who enter this space are sure shes never left.  And she may very well not be the only one who lingers here.

Come with us to explore and investigate these two historic buildings-turned-museums and see what you can learn  not only about the history of Palmyra area, but also about the spirits who make these places their homes.

The Paranormal:

Nestled in the Finger Lakes region of New York and along the Erie Canal, Palmyra is a small town full of history and mystery. Join us while we investigate two different properties that present numerous accounts of ghostly spirits who continue to inhabit these historic buildings.

The 23-room building which houses the Palmyra Historical Museum containing memorabilia and artifacts from the past 200 years was moved to its current location in the 1970s. It once served the community as a hotel and tavern.

Now, it appears to be a center of paranormal activity, including the sounds of slamming doors, disembodied voices, and footsteps in empty hallways and rooms.

More than once, staff have reported pictures apparently being taken gently off walls and laid on floors  with no damage at all.

A surveillance camera actually once captured a picture of such an event.

The Childrens Room is often thought to be the most active room in the museum, and some believe it may be because the toys in this room might attract the spirits of the six children who perished in a fire in 1964  the museum sits on the land where the fire took place.

The Doctors Room has also had its share of mysterious occurrences, including the shock machine and old television tubes lighting up and turning on without any electrical source. Perhaps the spirit they call the Darkman is responsible for these strange events.

Phelps General Store is the second location where visitors, staff, and paranormal investigators have reported a wide variety of haunted happenings.

Guests claim ghostly cats rub up against their legs, the feeling of a small child grabbing their hands, and hearing the otherworldly sound of old-time music coming out of nowhere.

But the most popular and active spirit in the old general store is said to be Sibyl Phelps, who resided in the upstairs living quarters until her death in 1976. Sibyl was a spiritualist in life, and she seemingly has found a way of communicating with the living from the next realm.

Join us to explore these two unique and amazing locations.

Maybe Sibyl will have a message for you, or the spirit children will entice you to play. You might even try to engage with the Dark-man while you are all alone in the Doctors Room  if you dare.
