Gem Trio, Richard Michael & Hilary Michael Live at Kirkcaldy Old Kirk
Langtoun Jazz Festival will be virtual again this year since Covid restrictions are not fully eased but we are delighted to be able to have a small audience in attendance to see a fine trio of young players called Gem Trio and renowned pianist, Richard Michael along with his daughter, Hilary, on sax and violin.
Gem Trio are based in Fife and members are involved in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland and FYJO
They will treat the audience to a 1 hour set of standards playing the Old Kirk's fine piano, accompanied by bass guitar and drums
Richard Michael has been a mentor to the trio in FYJO and they are delighted to have him on the programme too.
Richard occupies a unique place in the musical life of his native Scotland, as he has the versatility to improvise on any theme, in any key and in any given style.
He has a virtuosic piano technique enabling him to give recitals on The History of Jazz Piano, encompassing every major jazz pianist from Fats Waller to Keith Jarrett, and is a master of stride piano playing.
So that's now 4 Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra players on the bill as Hilary was lead alto 20 years ago and now sax tutor with Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra as well as Baroque Violin specialist in the award winning Dunedin Ensemble.
The event will then be shown online on Langtoun Jazz Facebook Page and Youtube Channel on Friday 25th June as part of Langtoun Jazz Festival At Home One More Time
Covid restrictions still apply for indoor events so face coverings will be required when entering, leaving or moving about the building
