Duff Green Mansion Ghost Hunt
Our Ghost Hunts at Duff Green Mansion in Vicksburg, Mississippi are not for the faint of heart.

Heres your change to investigate the gorgeous, antebellum mansion dubbed one of the most haunted places in Mississippi

Who will you encounter at this former hospital? Do you have what it takes to spend some time in the haunted Nursery?

Location History:

Cotton broker Duff Green built this magnificent antebellum mansion in 1856 for his wife, Mary, with the intention of enjoying a lavish and entertaining lifestyle for years to come. However, by 1863, the Civil War came to Vicksburg, and in order to save his beloved home, Mr. Green offered up his property to be used as a hospital to treat wounded soldiers  on both the Confederate and Union sides.

The Greens reportedly retreated to a cave located on the property to wait out the Battle of Vicksburg, and Mary is said to have given birth to her son William in the cave. The home-turned-hospital filled up quickly with wounded soldiers and the grand structure suffered cannonball damage to the roof. It is believed that many amputations took place in the bottom-floor kitchen which had quickly turned into an operating room, and the floors are still blood-stained to this day. Remains and bone fragments are still occasionally found on the property.

After July 4, 1863, when Vicksburg was surrendered, the U.S. government leased the mansion, and it was used as a place where wounded soldiers could recuperate before going home. By 1866, the Greens were able to move back into their beloved residence, and Duff Green spent his remaining years here until he died in 1880. Over the years it played a number of roles in the community, including serving as an orphanage, a retirement home, as the local Salvation Army offices, and as a home for the poor.

A couple from Florida, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sharp, purchased Duff Green Mansion in 1985 and spent the next two-and-a-half years restoring it to its original splendor. The work was exhaustive and included the restoration of fireplaces and the additions of several bathrooms. The Sharps opened the grand and beloved mansion as a bed-and-breakfast, welcoming visitors through its historic doors.

Today, this stunning property is owned by Harley Caldwell, who continues to operate the mansion as a lovely B&B  which also happens to be quite haunted  by several spirits, according to many accounts. Is it the ghost of little Annie Green, Duff and Marys young daughter who died of yellow fever? Some think that they have experienced the spirit of Mary Green, who may be checking on her beloved home.  Other visitors have reported seeing the apparition of a wounded Confederate soldier.

Join us in exploring and investigating Duff Green Mansion and see which spirits you may encounter. This amazing property is full of history to be discovered and secrets to be shared by the ghosts who continue to roam here  if you know how to listen.

The Paranormal:

Heres your chance to investigate the gorgeous, antebellum mansion dubbed one of the most haunted places in Mississippi.

Built in 1856 by Duff Green for his wife, Mary, this mansion is full of history, joy and tragedy. Not long after it was constructed, the Civil War disturbed the Greens idyllic life, and their beautiful residence was turned into a hospital to treat both Confederate and Union wounded soldiers. There are still bloodstains on the floor from the incalculable amputations that took place here during the battle.

Although the home has been lovingly restored, and it served the community in many different ways in the years following the war, the accounts of paranormal activity continue  from apparitions of a one-legged soldier to the playful spirit thought to be little Annie Green who died from yellow fever to interactions with Mary, who apparently still keeps a watchful eye on her beloved home.

Staff and visitors have claimed that up to ten different spirits may still be inhabiting Green Mansion, and report everything from seeing full-bodied apparitions to shadow figures. They hear disembodied voices and footsteps and noises that sound like furniture is being moved  but by an unseen entity. Some have captured EVPs on voice recorders in response to questions they pose. Living children have been known to interact with a ghostly child who still resides within the walls of this stately home.

Join us at this amazing place to see who still lingers long after they have passed. Maybe you can find out if Mary approves of the restoration of her beautiful home. Perhaps Annie will want to play a game with you. You might capture the sound of a soldier in agony, or maybe otherworldly music wafting from the ballroom.
