Location History:

Join us as we explore, investigate and spend the night at The Hinsdale House located in Hinsdale, NY. Located in rural Western, New York, this small farmhouse built in the mid-1800s is often referred to as one of the most haunted houses in America. First made famous on an episode of Paranormal Lockdown with Katrina Weidman and Nick Groff, now seasoned paranormal investigators flock to this property to find out for themselves if the hauntings they hear about are true  and try to determine who the spirits are that linger in the home  and on the land.

At one time it is reported that the structure was an inn and a stagecoach stop soon after it was built, lending an air of mystery as to whom may have stayed there and perhaps committed heinous crimes while on the property. The property was then owned by the family of Irish immigrant Michael McMahon from 1861 until 1971. Legend has it that bad luck and freak accidents befell several residents in the early to mid-1900s. But the hauntings became most well-known in the 1970s when the Dandy family moved into the house and became victims of unexplainable activity within days  so much so that they called on a local priest to cleanse and exorcise their home.

The Dandy family said they experienced everything from objects flying across the room to their children being scratched and bruised by unseen entities. They reported hearing chanting or screams coming from the woods that surrounds the property, and often claimed to see apparitions moving throughout the home. After Father Alphonsus of St. Bonaventure University cleansed the home and the activity continued, the Dandy family took his advice and moved. Some ground is just badthis place is just a hole to Hell, the priest reportedly told them.

What secrets will you uncover when you spend the night here with us? With layers of residual energy throughout the building and on the land, it is probably only a matter of time before guests will likely have experiences of their own. Is the Hinsdale House cursed, as many would claim? Are the spirits of Native Americans exacting revenge for a rumored massacre of their people nearby? Will you perhaps encounter the ghost of young Alfred Warren who was tragically killed while helping his father trim a tree on the property in the 1940s? Maybe the specter of Ian or Richard  said to be evil brothers who were among the first owners of the house  will remind you of their crimes.  Or maybe someone who met their fate at the Hanging Tree will want to tell his story.

Discover the many secrets and stories of the spirits or other entities who may still be dwelling here for yourself. That is, if you have the courage to stay the night in a place where many others have tried but ended up fleeing  or havent dared to step foot into at all

The Paranormal:

Built sometime in the mid-1800s, the property now known as The Hinsdale House is located in rural Western New York on top of a hill overlooking beautiful forests. But as serene and lovely as the setting may seem at first, trauma and tragedy seem to exude from the walls of the home and seep from the land on which it sits.

It is reported to have been a stagecoach stop and an inn during its early years. Spotty records from long ago identify brothers named Ian and Richard as owners of the inn which hosted unsuspecting and weary travelers  who may have ended up being victims of horrible crimes committed by the evil siblings who had welcomed them.

An Irish immigrant named Michael McMahon purchased the property in 1861 and the land stayed in his extended family until 1971. Freak accidents resulting in death and terrible injuries are said to have plagued this property throughout the early 1900s, and by 1942, people referred to the land as being cursed.

But stories of hauntings and paranormal activity became most well-known after Clara and Phil Dandy moved into the home during the early 1970s. Instead of being the house they had always dreamed of, it quickly became a nightmare of poltergeist activity, shadows and apparitions darting about, and even physical attacks on their children. The Dandy family became so desperate that they contacted Father Alphonsus of nearby St. Bonaventure University to come and exorcise their home in 1974. But it did not help calm the entities that terrorized them, so Clara and Phil packed up their children and their belongings and left.

The house sat empty and abandoned for nearly 25 years, falling into disrepair, and set to be demolished in 2000 until Daniel Klaes, a paranormal investigator, saved it from that fate. It is now a functioning building used for research and investigation for the paranormal community. Many ghost hunting teams visit every year, trying to determine who  or what  haunts the house and the surrounding land. The accounts of activity are varied  from shadow figures to full-bodied apparitions; disembodied footsteps to EVPs captured on voice recorders; doors slamming to investigation equipment manipulation by unseen entities; light anomalies to cold spots  The Hinsdale House certainly seems to have many stories to tell.
