The College Essay
Is the college essay looming large over your college applications? Does it sometimes seem like you don't have a remarkable story? I assure you, you do!
The personal essay is creative writing, though we don't often think of it like that. You want to grab the attention of that admissions reader and keep them captivated, leaving with a sense that YOU will be valuable to their academic community.
During the first week, we will use many tried and true strategies to mine deep for those stories you don't even know you have. The second week, we'll talk about structure for your essay. Finally the third week, we'll share our drafts and talk about next steps for your application.
Along with being an educator, I am also a professional storyteller of personal tales on stage. My decade's worth of experience as a published author and a frequent performer on stage gives me unique insight about the power of storytelling in any context.
Join us for this fun and interactive three weeks. It will be on Zoom, but I've been teaching storytelling courses for the Newberry Library this past year and know how to make it engaging. You might even leave with a new friend or two!
