Hixon Dance "Six Portraits" and "Gyre and Mist"
Six Portraits Dance films featuring company members Six Portraits is a series of short films featuring the Hixon Dance company dancers. The films were created in collaboration with artistic director Sarah Hixon. Each film is an intimate look into a story, moment, or memory of the dancers: Victoria Alesi, Samantha Conte, Alicia Hann, Dian Jing, Kelsey Lee, and Rachael Wieczorek. With original sound scores, music by local and regional composers, and original texts, the films offer a unique perspective of dance making and artistic collaboration during a pandemic that has challenged and re-shaped traditional ways of working.
Gyre and Mist A dance-for-camera meditation Gyre and Mist, a new dance-for-camera work choreographed and directed by Sarah Hixon, is inspired by the algorithmic elements of nature that can create power, chaos, and tranquility. This work was created through online and outside distanced rehearsals, and was filmed in Sharon Woods Metro Park in Westerville, Ohio. Rather than a bleak response to pandemic isolation, the film is a meditation on the connection between humanity and nature. The film features original music by Columbus-based composer Jennifer Merkowitz. Other collaborators in these productions include Chris Leyva (dramaturg), and Jacob Reed (music director).
Both films are available between 8pm on Friday, May 21 and 11pm on Monday, May 24, 2021.
Ticket buyers get unlimited access to the films during this time period.
