Plein Air Oil Painting with Neil Sherman
Everwood Farmstead Foundation is proud to present the Artist Workshop "Plein Air Oil Painting" with Neil Sherman on Sunday, July 18th from 10 am - 4:30 pm!
This workshop will give participants an introduction to plein air painting using the prismatic palette - how color and light are filtered through layers of atmosphere. In the morning, Neil will discuss the prismatic palette and demonstrate the various methods, materials and equipment he uses to quickly capture this light effect. After lunch, participants will work on their own paintings while Neil circulates and offers guidance and suggestions. Class size is limited to 10 participants.
Neil strives to capture the feelings of a particular day. His method of painting has roots that date back to the Impressionist era. He is inspired by American painter Frank Vincent DuMond who studied painting in France in the late 1890s and early 1900s. He developed a palette that has become affectionately known as the Prismatic Palette which is geared toward allowing subtle control of color and value in a landscape. This palette has been passed down through such painters as Arthur Maynard, John Phillip Osborne and Joe Paquet, who in turn taught it to Neil.
The price for the Workshop is $70 a person (which includes beverages).
Participants should bring: * Picnic lunch * Comfortable clothes and sensible shoes based on the weather * Two canvases of any size between 8" x 10" and 11" x 14" * Pleinair easel * Desired oil paints and brushes (suggested list will be emailed to registered participants) * Turpenoid or Gamsol * Palette
