Brave New Play Rites Full Production - Ripe
For 35 years, Brave New Play Rites has been staging new short plays by emerging playwrights studying in the Creative Writing Program at UBC. This year, to follow health and safety mandates from the BC government due to Covid-19, we have moved our entire festival online. Ten full productions of short plays have been filmed, each one to be released daily from April 17th, for you to enjoy from the safety of your own home!
Our fourth short play is - "Ripe" by Rayne Weinstein.
Ripe is a tragedy about a neurotic mechanic mourning the death of his fortune-teller best friend, following a near-biblical flood that has left them stranded on a rooftop. Unbeknownst to him, her spirit lingers restlessly as she attempts to come to terms with her death.
Ripe is directed by Mike Doaga and features the performance of Aaron Paul Stewart
