Measure for Measure
How do we measure up to the standards of our legal system? How does the world maintain balance between good and evil? What are our definitions of good and evil? Who gets to decide?
These are questions that are explored in the actions of the main characters in this most fascinating character study by William Shakespeare. When a nun has incest in her past and a judge is corrupted from his moral standards because he desires her, all the lines become blurred and we are left to draw new conclusions and admit new possibilities of right and wrong.
Join the Strange Bedfellows for this exciting evening of comedy and drama all mixed together. Measure for Measure tells the story of the corrupt world of Vienna, some justices who try to set it right and some citizens who like it just the way it is. Director Diana Green has used a modern setting to juxtapose this timeless play against our own current events.
The Strange Bedfellows are a troupe of actors from Rockland County who present classical theater with a twist. Modern music, gorgeous costumes and spare sets are used to convey the exciting stories of William Shakespeare and others to modern audiences in an easily accessible and very entertaining manner. Under the direction of Diana Green this group has produced five full-length plays to date, including the highly acclaimed Romeo & Juliet this past summer. The group calls the Union Arts Center in Sparkill their home, but they also travel to outdoor venues and other spaces to keep the spice of variety in their work. They are also currently developing an original piece for presentation in the spring.
