Ethics & Planning - Current Ethical Planning Dilemmas
Smooth Sailing or Slippery Slope: The Ethical Challenges of Creating a Business Friendly Environment in the Planning Office
Speaker: Carol Barrett FAICP / AICP Ethics Committee, American Planning Association
9:30-11 AM

Join us November 16 to earn your 1.5 credit hours of Ethics to satisfy the Certification Maintenance (CM) requirement. This event is open to all APA members, even those who do not need CM credits. Proceeds of the training will support continuing education and provide local scholarships for the AICP exam.

In a down economy, some elected officials want business friendly customer service. What does that mean to planners with adopted plans and ordinances? How can planners meet the expectations for expedited everything while being attentive to their legal and moral obligations, including the AICP Code of Ethics? This session will help identify how planners can help lead the implantation of business friendly practices.  Methods for making procedures more business friendly will be reviewed in the context of the AICP Code of Ethics.   Several scenarios will be discussed and ideas for resolving potential conflicts in an ethical manner will be considered.

About the Instructor:
Carol Barrett, FAICP, has 30 years of planning experience and is currently the Assistant Community Development Director, Transportation & Planning, for the City of Burbank.
