Witaj Polsko! Three Decades of Animation from Poland
Various directors, Poland, 1947-1968, 72 min
Say hello to Poland in this three-ring circus of joyous and masterful animated films spanning the 1940s, 50s and 60s. This program celebrates an incredible contribution to the children's film canon by taking a look back at visually dazzling, award-winning short films that tell funny, tender, thrilling, and unexpected stories. From a groundbreaking 1947 puppet animation about a rampaging dragon, to a painterly wild West fantasy, to a groovy 1960s fable about a peaceful world where time stood still, this program has it all - adventure, razzle-dazzle, heartwarming characters, and an artistic standard that still stands as a challenge to filmmakers worldwide.
Film program includes: In the Time Of King Krakus (Zenon Wasilewski, 1947, 14min); Cat and Mouse (Wladyslaw Nehrebecki, 1958, 8 min); Dumpling (Lucjan Dembinski, 1959, 9 min); A Little Western (Witold Giersz, 1960, 5 min) The Pocket Knife (Leszek Lorek, 1961, 8 min); Crossbow (Wladyslaw Nehrebecki, 1963, 9 min); The Little Quartet (Edward Sturlis, 1965, 7 min); A Tale (Ryszard Kuziemski, 1968, 10 min)
Recommended for all ages. One film has English subtitles, the rest are non-verbal.
