We've made a name for ourselves by doing things outside the ordinary. Our 2014 season is no different. The theme for next season, beginning in February of 2014, "Innovate: New Theatre for New Reno", exemplifies the sort of risk-taking that has led to us becoming the go-to company for engaging, fun, and relevant entertainment in Reno. How risky have we become? Six out of the eight mainstage shows we will produce this year are brand-new works written and created by local talent.
"'Buy local' isn't just about food. It's about our entertainment and art, too," says Producing Artistic Director, Chad Sweet. "What I love about this season is our commitment to Reno's creatives. It also scares the heck out of me. Producing new shows is often much, much harder than previously written works. But I believe in our talent to produce professional theater. No one else is doing this kind of work on this scale in Northern Nevada."
The line up includes: "The Game Show Show", Jan. 31-Feb. 22, featuring Reno's funniest improv group, The Utility Players; "The Memory Card", Mar. 21-Apr. 20, a play set to video game music co-written with the Reno Video Game Symphony; "The Killarney Sabbatical", May 2-18, a continuation of GLM's Playwright in Residence program with Stacey Spain, Executive Director of Sierra Arts Foundation; A staged concert version of Sondheim's "Company", June 27-July 26, for Artown; GLM's four-years-and-counting "Hot August Sock Hop", July 29-Aug. 3, a 1950's review; "Miss Ginger Devine Undressed", Aug. 22-Sept. 6, a solo work by Reno's number one drag queen; "Evil Dead: The Musical", Sept. 26-Oct. 31, a very adult show based on the original cult horror films Evil Dead 1 & 2; and "I Remind You", Dec. 4-21, a new musical based on the music of The Novelists, one of Reno's most popular bands.
** Happy Hour Theatre Club wine is not included in season tickets but can be added at an additional cost. ** Season Tickets not valid for any shows or events outside of those listed above.
