Writer, director, producer Onir leads audiences through these multifaceted human problems faced by his cast of richly drawn characters. Matters of sexual discrimination, religious intolerance, child abuse, single motherhood, ethnic and regional identity, and more are viewed unflinchingly through the eyes of diverse Indian characters as they live out their own intertwined dramas.
An important, boundary-crossing film,I AM has received numerous awards at various film festivals for directing, acting, and music including the prestigious National Award in India. It is truly unique in being greatly at odds with the mainstream Indian film industry. Consequently, to even get produced, I AM was 100% crowd-funded, a rarity in India.
