2nd Annual SING TO FEED Concert with Redwood Son & Naomi LaViolette
"SING TO FEED" CONCERT AT OLD CHURCH DEC. 7: REDWOOD SON & LAVIOLETTE Portland natives team up to raise funds for Sunshine Division with an acoustic holiday concert
PORTLAND, OR November 7, 2013 Two local singer-songwriters announce a double feature evening at The Old Church, December 7. Portland music veteran, Josh Malm of Redwood Son, celebrates his 2nd annual "Sing To Feed" concert benefiting local non-profit Sunshine Division, joined by local chanteuse Naomi LaViolette. The concert will feature acoustic and holiday songs written and arranged by both artists, backed by the Sing To Feed Choir, an ensemble of singers gathered from choral groups in the Portland area.
As Redwood Son (Josh Malm) works away on a new EP, set to release in early 2014, "Sing To Feed" is a major project all its own. Following a successful first effort, in last year's event at The Aladdin Theater on November 21st, 2012, the vision was born and validated. Second annuals can prove to be challenging for any venture, but with Malm's passion to giveback, there is some serious longevity in this cause. "The Holiday Season always gets me thinking about the staggering amount of people who are less fortunate, and don't get a chance to enjoy the luxuries so many of us do this time of year, let alone the basic necessities like food and clothing. It's very sad to me," says Malm. "Sing to Feed is just one of the ways for our community to rally together, for one purpose, and bring some relief to those in need."
Following the successful release show last month at the Alberta Rose Theatre of her second record, You've Got Me, Naomi LaViolette releases Noel, a single for this year's holiday season featuring violin and choir. She will present Noel at the concert with violinist Scott Stevens and the Sing To Feed Choir. A consistent musical philanthropist herself, LaViolette is enthusiastic to join Malm in his "Sing To Feed" legacy. "It is an honor to help others through music, especially during the holidays, which should be a time of joy and charity for all," says LaViolette. "Music connects people in ways beyond dollars and donations. It reaches heart level."
Local Artists will lend their voices, melodies and stories, to inspire the outreach. Together, the fans and talent can make an impact. The Portland Police Bureau's Sunshine Division has been doing this since 1923, which is a testament unto itself.
