FIRST NIGHT SARATOGA 2014
First Night is a New Year's celebration of the arts and community. Each year, thousands of revelers come to Saratoga Springs to experience a wide-ranging variety of arts and music. It is a true showcase of the diverse and immense talent in the Capitol-Saratoga region. Broadway and the surrounding streets of Saratoga Springs will be filled with music, art, comedy and family-friendly entertainment. There's no better way to ring in the New Year!
"Color Me First Night" Presented by Saratoga Arts
First Night Saratoga has grown to become the largest New Year's Eve event in upstate New York, with over 10,000 revelers enjoying a fun, family-friendly, alcohol-free, celebration of the arts. Over 25 performance venues and 200 performances transform Saratoga Springs into a showcase of music, dance, and visual arts. Rock, blues, bluegrass, opera, choral groups, dance, film, and more are included in the wide range of performances. Most venues are in easy walking distance of Saratoga's main street, Broadway, but all venues are easily accessible by bus service generously provided by CDTA.
THE HEADLINERS & PERFORMERS Headlining on the City Center Main Stage will be Upstate New York favorite soul band "Soul Session." Led by "soulist" Garland Nelson, former lead vocalist of the New York Players, Soul Session emotes supernatural passions from material by Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Bill Withers, and many others. Sharing the Main Stage will be an engaging theatrical experience of classic Beatles songs by the band "Hey Jude".
EXIT FEST Six of the best area bands and musicians will be performing on the upper stage at the City Center in a mini-music festival called EXIT FEST. Check out these exciting performances by Pete Donnelly and The Wise Easy, Molly Durnin, Ashley Sophia, and others. EXIT FEST will be in Meeting Room Two of the Saratoga City Center and is co-sponsored by WEXT 97.7.
FOR THE KIDS Children and families can stop by Saratoga Arts' First Night Clown Town at the City Center for the zany antics of a room full of clowns and to dance to the music of The Zucchini Brothers. "Dragon Scales and Faerie Tales" will be at Lake Avenue Elementary School with The Airborne Jugglers, Grammy Award nominee for children's music Zak Morgan, The Catskill Puppet Theater, and there will even be an enchanted wagon! There will be much more children's programming at Lake Avenue Elementary School too.
