Peter Prince and the Trama Unit is a cosmic rock band with an agile sound. Prince's vocal presence, a well-honed match of razor-like grit and sultry confidence, is met on all corners with snarling guitars, pious organ swells, and a thunderous stomp. Along with Prince, New England's best players are in the band: Johnny Trama on guitar, Tom Arey on drums, Nate Wilson on keys, and Tommy Lada on bass. These guys are all highly respected for their technical prowess, but their true utility comes through in their individuality. Each pulls from tens of thousands of gigssoul/funk on some nights, dub on others, classic arena rock, jazz, blues, and anything else you can scrape together as long as it sounds damn good and it does. With Prince and the Trama Unit at the helm, echoes of the Black Crowes, Deep Purple, and even Al Green are welcomed and thoughtfully molded, but the songs have a will of their own, coated with fresh focus and courted with skillful abandon.
Lyle Brewer is a highly-regarded session musician and touring guitarist, having made records and performed with a huge range of artists including Miss Tess, Chris O'Brien, Dennis Brennan, Rachael Price, Tim Gearan, Anita Suhanin and Schwang, Christian McNeil and the Seamonsters, Jake Armerding, Jimmy Ryan, Jesse Dee, Eilen Jewell, Jerry Miller, Ghosts of Jupiter, and Grimis, of which he was a founding member.
Brewer attended the prestigious New England Conservatory in Boston, studying jazz performance. During that time he made a name for himself as one of the youngest and hungriest guitarists on the Boston music scene, playing by his own estimate, 300 shows a year for one stretch of time. He's dug into it all -- John Scofield and Chet Atkins, Duane Allman and Brad Barr -- from the Conservatory to the Dive Bar, to the main stages of some of the country's finest outdoor music festivals, he's been there.
