S. Bear Bergman- Gathering Light: A Suite Of Stories About Creating Family
Left Bank Books After Hours Presents: Gathering Light: A Suite of Stories About Creating Family, written and performed by S. Bear Bergman
Family. How we create it, nurture it, and are nurtured within it; whether our family is original, chosen, or a hearty blend. Bergman's stories describe and exalt the lives of his grandparents and the hilarity of planning his wedding, while giving the same enthusiasm for drag mothers, Sparkles, sperm-donor's parents, and more. Described as "mesmerizing," "touching," and "hilarious," these stories are an amazing experience for anyone who has a family or wants one.
90 minutes of pure storytelling.
S. Bear Bergman is an author, storyteller and educator working to create positive, celebratory representations of trans lives. Recent or current projects include two fabulous children's storybooks featuring trans-identified kid characters, a performance about loving and living in a queer/ed Jewish family, teaching pleasure-positive trans/genderqueer sex ed, and his sixth book Blood, Marriage, Wine & Glitter (Arsenal Pulp, 2013).
"Bear is absolutely mesmerizing and enchanting--a consummate storyteller--who makes his audience laugh and cry, feel joy and compassion. It's a fantastic piece, and is wonderfully accessible to those who are not queer, not Jewish, or not either. Highly, highly recommended." - Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg, author "How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love God."
