Opus 7 Vocal Ensemble presents "A Boy Was Born"
"Opus 7, one of the most esteemed musical groups anywhere" - Richard Campbell, The Gathering Note, December 2009
2013 - awarded "The American Prize in Choral Performance" - Community Chorus Division
We conclude our celebration of Benjamin Britten's career with a performance of his "A Boy Was Born", written when he was 19 years old. An awesome piece in every way, it includes everything from sublimely transparent passages, to eight-part fugues, and raucously fun music. We will be joined by Jubilate!, the young women's choir from St. James.
We will also commemorate the anniversary of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut with a performance of John Muehleisen's "Consolation (Requiem for Newtown)".
Opus 7 was formed by Loren Ponten in 1992 and features some of the Northwest's finest choral artists. The group is known for its glorious sound, ardent musicality, and innovative programming of late 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-century choral repertoire.
