Berlin & Beyond - One Who Set Forth - Wim Wenders Tribute
In this documentary, Wim Wenders speaks frankly and very personally about his path from being a doctors son, who was supposed to follow in his fathers footsteps to becoming a filmmaker. He wanted to become a priest but went to medical school. His passion however was photography and film. The viewer is taken on a journey to Paris, where Wenders tried to make ends meet as a painter. He recalls events of his life as an aspiring director at the University of Television and Film in Munich, which include success as well as failure. The film paints the picture of a young students ready-to-go attitude to life in 1968s Munich. Some of Wenders most important companions, his wives as well as Peter Handke, Robby Mller, Rdiger Vogler, and Bruno Ganz are interviewed and for the first time speak openly about their personal and professional experiences with him. Recalling their memories, they also talk about recurring key themes in Wenders films--loneliness, friendship, the difficulty to communicate, and the search for identity.
