Jimmy Crowley House Concert
(Jackson, MS) -- Join us for an evening of Irish folk music from Co. Cork, in an intimate, acoustic setting! No smoke, no constant chatter, no amplification.... Music as it used to be -- and how it's still best heard.
Jimmy Crowley is returning to Jackson after his headlining appearance at CelticFest Mississippi! A household name in Ireland, Jimmy both writes songs and collects folk songs of his native Cork. He is currently working on a new compendium of Cork ballads, due for publication in 2009.
The House Concert Series was designed to present international caliber Celtic music performers to Mississippi, outside of the context of CelticFest, and perhaps more importantly, in a more personal setting.
The address of the hosting house in Fondren will be provided at the time of ticket purchase. Tickets are $12 and can be reserved by phone, or bought online at the CelticFest website, www.CelticFestMS.org.
Singing took hold of Jimmy Crowley when he was a teenager and it hasn't lessened its grip in all the decades that followed. In his youth, while he learned the art and craft of cabinetmaking in his native Cork, he found himself drawn by Ireland's rich heritage of folklore and music that included ballads as well as comic songs. In later years he incorporated those bits of social and musical history into live performances that cast him in the role of a modern day balladeer.
Crowley is the folk singer's singer of choice. His fans include such Irish luminaries Liam Clancy, whose automobile is always furnished with one of Crowley's tapes. Martin Carthy and Mary Black are loyal Crowley devotees, as is Christy Moore.
Sponsors for this concert include Wine & Spirits in the Quarter and the Celtic Heritage Society. All proceeds for the concert are retained by the artist.
