The Northwest Community Land Trust Coalition has made the decision to keep our communities safe and make the 2021 Gathering completely VIRTUAL. Sessions will be held in an online setting, likely through Zoom.
We hope you will consider joining us virtually for another year of education, comradery; professional development and technical assistance for Community Land Trust organizations and affiliated partners.
This year's virtual gathering will feature sessions from May - October on messaging, advocacy, homeowner engagement, growing your CLT portfolio, disaster recovery, donated homes and much more! With the inclusion of experts from State Housing Finance Agency Commissions, the HUD Region 10, an expanded lenders panel, as well as the first ever virtual game night. This year's gathering is one you don't want to miss! Tentative schedule below

Tuesday May 4th 2021 9:30 am -12 pm PST Opening Ceremonies, updates & Annual Meeting Updates from CLTs and Supporting Members: Anecdotal stories that capture our history as a coalition and as CLT practitioners. Annual Meeting starts 11:15am: Program Updates, Board Elections
Tuesday May 4th 2021 2:00 4:30 pm PST Ignite Advocacy From beginner to advanced, participants will gain meaningful insights and action steps. This session will feature selected Ignite-Style case histories of CLT legislative wins in three states covering the issue, the legislative strategy, allies and adversaries, and the outcome. Well announce details for the new Quarterly Advocacy Event series that will begin following the gathering. Participants will break up into discussion groups by topic such as finding time for advocacy, cultivating homeowner case histories/testimony, and more. Breakout groups will be followed by a brief session on messaging for advocacy.
Tuesday May 4th, 2021 4:35 5:30 pm PST Grounded Solutions Network Update Join us for a casual cocktail conversation with Tony Pickett, CEO, to hear about the national challenges and successes of the last year. BYOB
Wednesday May 5th 2021 9:30am - 12 pm PST Homeowner Financing Opening with Fannie Mae updates on their Duty-to-Serve products and answers questions from CLTs and their lending partners. Then the 2021 Lenders Panel, facilitated this year by Charlie Guildner, President, North Cascades Bank, and featuring new-to-CLT lenders, as well as some of our long-term partners. Housing Finance Agency Round Table with Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska attending!
Wednesday May 5th 2021 2:00 4:00 pm PST Growing Your Community Land Trust Portfolio In this two hour virtual Zoom session we will hear from a panelist of CLT practitioners from across the country on innovative ways they have added homes to their CLT portfolio. Joining us will be Nina Culotta, Director of Programs at the Houston Community Land Trust. Nina will share information on their Home Choice Program. Staci Horwitz, Operations Director at City of Lakes CLT in Minneapolis will present on their Project Sustain Legacy Program. This session will allow time for participants to brainstorm opportunities and barriers to starting similar programs in their communities with colleagues in small groups, while still allowing plenty of time for Q&A.
Wednesday May 5th 2021 4-5 pm PST Debrief & Evaluation Inform future Gatherings with your thoughts and reactions. Take a little time to let us know your thoughts on the conference so far! Well do some polling and discussion to make the 2022 Gathering as good as it can be! Evaluation forms will be provided, but not appetizers or drinks BYOB!
Tuesday June 22nd 2021 2:30 - 3:30 pm PST Stewardship & Homeowner Engagement Hear from CLTs about staying connected with homeowners through social events, volunteer opportunities and more. This session will feature CLT Homeowners who are/were a board director or staff member. Discuss key motivations for-- and barriers to-- homeowner engagement, also future possibilities and plans. There will be plenty of time for Q&A.
Tuesday June 22nd 2021 4:30 - 5:30 pm PST Midsummer Nights Poetry Reading Celebrate summer with your colleagues and friends by reading original or favorite works. Housing-themed Limerick and Haiku Competition start writing!
Wednesday August 11th 2021 1:30-4:00pm PST Disaster Preparedness Session Many CLTs across our region have experienced disasters -wildfires, earthquakes, major storms-- uprooting operations, homeowners, and neighborhoods. These events create new and foreign challenges for CLTs that can be navigated a little easier with a good plan. CLTs experienced with disaster planning and recovery share their ideas, plans, and resources, so we can all be ready when that day comes.
Wednesday August 11th 2021 4:30 6:30pm PST Virtual Game Night Join in one of three or four game rooms for a little comradery and competition! Pictionary, Poker, Trivial Pursuit were open to suggestions!
September Date/Time TBD HUD Regional Round Table Conversation What is the late-breaking news? What is on the horizon? We continue the conversation with our Region X office and hope to meet the new Director! Possible debut appearance of the new Montana HUD coordinator!
October Date/Time TBD Economic Development Anchorage CLT is 100% focused on economic development: small business incubation and coaching, as well as providing commercial space for operations. Trust Montana recently added a farm/ranch program to preserve and enhance small, family farming operations. Join us to explore how CLTs foster and steward economic opportunities in their communities.
Scholarships
Scholarships of up to $75 are available to members of the NWCLT Coalition. Limit of 2 per organization. CLT Homeowners are encouraged to attend and can apply for scholarship funds separate from their CLT organization. Deadline to submit a scholarship request is April 16th, 2021.
