Thanksgiving and Bees! With Michael Theile
There is more to bees than meets the eye. Beyond fulfilling the critical role of pollinating crops and providing honey, a bee colony can offer a glimpse into a world with its own social order, its own rhythm and its own sense of interconnectedness. In this class, Michael Thiele contemplates and honors the world and wisdom of bees, encouraging gratitude for bees and all of life.
"The Honeybees are at the core of the earths biosphere. They are agents of life, as they sustain the health and existence of vast numbers of plants and animals. Our food supply depends on them. Bees are a symbol of fertility, service and altruism. When we link ourselves to them, we can develop a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of all world phenomena, and connect with the most fundamental questions in life. This will be an opportunity to venture into a different way of understanding bees, and a time of honoring life with gratitude in the season of Thanksgiving. There will be several local honey varietals for tasting and honoring life." - Michael Thiele
Michael Thiele is a Sonoma County based apiculturist, founder of Gaia Bees, and co-founder of Healdsburg's very own "Melissa Garden", one of the first bee sanctuaries in the country. Michael is featured in the documentary film "Queen of the Sun" and has been published in a number of journals and books.
