Euclid Quartet
Back by popular demand, the Euclid Quartet will show just how much theyve grown when they appear in our series again. Complete with a new, vibrant cellist, David Beem, it will be interesting to see how the dynamic has shifted with this new mix of performers. Says the South Bend Tribune: "Cellist David Beem asserted the main theme [of Haydn] with authority; the quartet played through the adagio with pathos and the allegretto with restless vigor, arriving at the end with a gleeful certainty." For their 10th anniversary as a quartet, they are taking on playing the complete Beethoven Quartet cycle, divided up throughout the season. The Redwood Arts Council will have the Opus 18 in the program as our contribution to this celebration.
The Euclid Quartet is a dynamic ensemble known for performances filled with personality and vibrant color. Originally from the U.S., Great Britain, and Venezuela, they have won many prizes at major competitions around the world, and hold the prestigious Quartet Residency at Indiana University South Bend. The Pittsburgh Tribune Review raved: "The impressiveness of the Euclid Quartet extended to all the styles... [Their] emotional and timbral richness... brought to mind the old-world approach of the Guarneri Quartet. ...devoted, expert and xhilarating." Ara Guzelimian, Artistic Advisor of Carnegie Hall, praised their "wonderful intensity, insight and communicative strength."
