TAKE ME OR LEAVE ME (OR, THE USUAL ORDER OF THINGS) - DOROTHY PARKER'S WORK, CONCEIVED BY DANA MILLER Synopsis: Take Me Or Leave Me is a selection of short fiction pieces by Dorothy Parker, perhaps the most famous (and infamous) female wit of the 20th century. Using a blend of traditional stage performance and reader's theater, these four-and-a-half vignettes provide comic and occasionally touching insight into modern gender roles from a female perspective set in the 1920's and 1930's. Couples make love, fight, manipulate each other, and experiment with complicated dances while individuals wage their own internal battles and find a way to make peace- or war- with themselves and their mates. If you've ever wanted to know what's really going on in a woman's mind then listen up, because Dorothy tells it like no one else can.
Dana Miller Bio: Miller is an academic librarian at UNR who is enjoying a recent return to the stage and to her Nevada roots. A film student at UNLV, Dana directed a handful of short films and a travel documentary about Nevada; as a theater enthusiast she acted in Ionesco's The Bald Soprano and adapted/directed literary pieces for the stage. She's acted in Community Theater and directed small avant-garde and burlesque-inspired shows in Athens, GA, and has also acted and assistant-directed in Reno. Dana is thrilled to be involved with Brüka for this festival and hopes to help bring more literary shows to the Reno stage.
