PIECES OF EIGHT SCHEDULE: Sunday, November 10, 2013 6 PM - Janice Oberding BIGGEST LITTLE CITY GHOSTS
BIGGEST LITTLE CITY GHOSTS - JANICE OBERDING Synopsis: If you happen to be on the Wedding Ring Bridge late at night and encounter an angry man who asks for a drink, then vanishes before you can point to the nearest bar, you may have just met the ghostly Luis Ortiz. Don't worry. He means you no harm. He's just a bit confused. He is but one of many ghostly residents who call downtown Reno home. That blonde showgirl adorned in sequins and feathers? Yes her too! And speaking of blondes, Marilyn Monroe, movie goddess extraordinaire who gave the Kennedy's such a good time? Look over by the clock, where the Mapes Hotel once proudly stood. Marilyn's not spending all her ghostly time in a Hollywood Cemetery. Skaters be warned, she's sometimes seen strolling the empty lot now that the Mapes is but a fond memory. And you thought Biggest Little City was anything but ghosts.
Janice Oberding Bio: Oberding's lifelong interest in the paranormal and history has led her down a very different career path; that of seeking out, and chronicling Nevada's ghostly residents. Writing numerous books and serving as a docent Nevada Historical Society and at the Fourth Ward School Museum in Virginia City, her teaching includes the first online ghost hunting class at Great Basin College in Elko Nevada in 2001 and Nevada's History and Hauntings at WNCC & TMCC. In 2001 she created History Mystery Ghost Walk (Biggest Little City Ghost Walk) based on her book Infamous Reno. She has spoken about Nevada's ghostly history throughout the country. Janice holds a BS from the University of Metaphysical Science and is currently working, albeit rather slowly, on her Master Thesis entitled Did Thomas Alva Edison Create a Device to Communicate with the Dead. The 2004 fall issue of Ghost Magazine lists Janice as one of three pioneer icons in the paranormal field, along with Hans Holzer and Peter James. Oberding also received the 2009 part time instructor of the year award at TMCC for her ghost hunting classes. A consultant for the Syfy Channel, Channel, the History Channel, LivingTV and the Travel Channel, Janice has appeared in episodes of Dead Famous for Two Four productions LivingTV (Sinatra Vegas/Goldfield episode, Thunderbird Lodge episode, and Cal-Neva episode) Travel Channel's Haunted Hotels (Cal-Neva episode,) Scariest Places on Earth (Goldfield Hotel episode,) and Ghost Adventures (Goldfield Hotel episode and Virginia City episodes). She is a member Reno Historic Preservation Society, Owner Thunder Mountain Productions Press and Owner of The Biggest Little City Ghost Walk.
