The Meat Puppets with special guest Shaky Hands
Since reforming in 2007, the Meat Puppets have established a highly focused drive and purpose dead set on complete resurrection. An extremely confident live act, the Puppets joined with Built to Spill for two separate tours of the US. In between tours, the Puppets wrote and recorded a new album, the trio's second full length record in less than 2 years. The band recorded the entire album in Phoenix, knowing and laboring under all sorts of questions as to what creative direction it would strike. The early buzz on those who have been able to hear the tracks suggests that the band has answered those questions with a musically rich and rewarding album, brilliantly framed by the band's sometimes folksy, always fluid wanderings.
It is what makes the Puppets musings so difficult to classify. They ambitiously dart the melodic spectrum between buoyant pop structure and operatic sweep. Some of the new tracks have been showing up in the band's live set recently, and this time around, fans may expect to hear more of the new record given its imminent completion. The Boise date is one of a ten shows planned for early 2009, then the band takes a break and will introduce the new record at SXSW next March.
