Exploring the Fall Color and Taste Palette with Kelsie Kerr and Sasha Duerr
Join Sasha and Kelsie at Healdsburg SHED for an afternoon of exploring the colors and flavors of the season. Using local fall produce we'll make natural dye baths and seasonal hors d'oeuvres to create an exciting palette of color and tastes. You will leave sated with color and flavor carrying swatches of fall hues, an array of beautiful samples, and a finished seasonally dyed textile to take home.
The 3-hour class is divided between learning about the local color palette, making and using a series of dye baths, tasting a bio-diverse selection of seasonal fruit, and making a few delicious recipes to share.
Sasha Duerr is the founder of Permacouture Institute, an educational non-profit supporting regenerative design for fashion and textiles based in San Francisco, CA. She is a textile artist and designer who works with biodiversity and reviving seasonal and local plant-based color. The author of The Handbook of Natural Plant Dyes (Timber Press/Workman Publishing 2011), Sasha is a professor at the California College of the Arts, where she develops curriculum in the intersection between slow textiles and social practice.
Kelsie Kerr is a passionate chef and teacher dedicated to cooking seasonal, local food and establishing connections with small farms and artisanal producers. She worked as Chef of Chez Panisse and collaborates on many Chez Panisse books including The Art of Simple Food and The Art of Simple Food II to be released in October 2013. Kelsie established the Cooking School at Cavallo Point and Kelsie's Kitchen in San Francisco.
